ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Half a million dollars in funding is on the way for the Egypt Fire Department.

Stations one and two are receiving state grants to help them improve things like HVAC systems and living quarters. Doors will also be replaced, allowing fire trucks to pass through more efficiently.

The President of the Egypt Fire Association talked about how the funding will impact the department and the community.

“It helps us offset the incredible cost of fire trucks,” Lt. Randall Simonetti said. “Over the last three years the cost of fire trucks has gone up 50 percent. At the same time, these changes will help us keep the community safer our members safer, and much more responsive.”

The Egypt Fire Department relies solely on volunteers, with 33 fire fighters between the two stations.
