Fairport girls soccer wins title; Mendon, Brighton boys advance in on PKs

Class AAA Championship: (1) Fairport 6, (2) Rush-Henrietta 0

Fairport shut out Rush-Henrietta for the Class AAA Championship title, outscoring the Royal Comets 6-0.

Savanna Biehler scored the first two goals for the Red Raiders as they had a 2-0 lead at half.

Andrea Wilson scored two goals in the second half. Charlotte Finkbeiner and Eliana Biehler each scored one.

Fairport (11-5-0) advances to state quarterfinals held on Saturday, November 9th at Williamsville East High School. Rush-Henrietta ends its season 2-15-1.

Boys Soccer

Class A Semifinals: (1) Mendon 0, (4) Sutherland 0 (Mendon advances 3-1 on PKs)

After keeping the Knights scoreless for the length of regulation and overtime, Mendon’s Max Fultz had a pair of big saves to clinch a 3-1 penalty kick advantage to push the Vikings to the Class A championship game.

Max Tagliarino, Jackson Forney, and Danny Coyne all had penalty kick goals for the Vikings in the shootout. Charlie Ryan had the lone tally for Sutherland.

Jackson Clark made two saves for Sutherland in the PK shootout. Paulino Hernandez was in net for the Knights during regulation and overtime and kept a clean sheet.

Mendon (15-1-1) will face Brockport in the title game, who beat Newark 3-1. Mendon beat Brockport 5-3 in the final game of the regular season. Sutherland’s season ends with an 11-4-3 record.

Class AA Quarterfinals: (7) Brighton 0, (2) Penfield 0 (Brighton advances 3-0 on PKs)

Samuel Robertson was the difference maker in Brighton’s win over Penfield as the Bruins outscored the Patriots 3-0 in penalty kicks after scoreless regulation and overtime.

Alessandro Bosa made the first penalty kick for Brighton, followed by makes from Kiernan Nicholson and Robertson. Robertson also made three saves in the shootout to secure the win.

Brighton (9-6-3) advances to the semifinals where it will take on Aquinas. Penfield ends its season 10-4-3.
