Baseball Sectional Finals

Class A: (2) Pittsford Sutherland 8, (5) Honeoye Falls-Lima 4

In a rematch of last year’s championship game, the Knights used a pair of crooked numbers to get revenge on the Cougars.

HF-L took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring runs on a passed ball and an error.

The Knights answered with a trio of runs in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI single by Owen Osborne.

The Cougars tied it up in the fifth inning, with Connor Finn hitting a one-out RBI single to make it 3-3.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning where Sutherland blew the game open with five runs.

Aidan Kress started the inning with an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Jaxon Bernas hit a chopper right up the middle of the infield to score two more runs. Ryan Munzinger tacked on another RBI single and the Knights got one more home on a wild pitch to make it 8-3.

The Cougars got a run in the seventh inning and brought the tying run to the plate, but Paul Byrne was able to close the door. Byrne went the distance, striking out ten batters to earn MVP honors.

Sutherland got revenge for last year’s loss to HF-L in the Class A2 title game, which the Cougars won 11-2. The Knights last won a sectional title in 2022. This is their 16th title, the most in Section V baseball.

Sutherland (17-6) will play either Kenmore East or Amherst from Section VI in the Far West Regionals. The game will be played on Saturday, June 1st at 1:00 p.m. at Grand Island High School.

HF-L’s season ends with a 13-10 record.
