Fairport, Arcadia girls bowling earn sectional titles

GATES, N.Y. (WROC) — Sophomore Anna Lago of Fairport had the top game and series at the girls bowling sectional championships on Wednesday, leading the Red Raiders to a Class A championship.

Lago came out hot with a 279 in her first game and parlayed that momentum into a 1,264 series, the highest by 44 pins. Her teammate Rainah Roos joined her on the All-Tournament Team, finishing 4th with 1,200 pins and the second-best game of 267.

8th-grader Tiffany McCarthy of Penfield finished in second, Rush-Henrietta’s Aurora Yantz came in third, and Isabella Ferraro of Hilton rounded out the top five.

Fairport finished with 5,481 pins, beating Spencerport by just 22 pins. Courtney Hammerle led the Rangers with 1,160 pins and a sixth-place finish. The Red Raiders also earned the Division I state championship berth.

In Class B, a balanced effort by Arcadia gave the Titans the team title with ease. All five Arcadia bowlers finished in the top 14, led by Jessica McDonald who came in fifth. Gianna Shaw came in seventh, Kaitlyn Johnson finished ninth, Sarah Mitchell rounded out the top ten, and Rebekah Mitchell came in 14th. The Titans finished with 5,266 pins while Canandaigua came in second place with 4,918.

After topping out at 200 pins in the morning session, Sadie Erb of Canandaigua had an impressive afternoon session to take the Class B individual title. The freshman ended her day 221-213-204 and had strikes on her final four throws to win by 27 pins. She finished with a 1,187 series.

Miley Bohrer of Mercy came in second, Kaylee Stephens of Brockport finished third, and Eastridge’s Shannon McGrath came in fourth. The high game in Class B was rolled by Olivia Bernier of Eastridge, who had a 236 in her second game.

The Class C and D finals were held on Tuesday in Canandaigua. Newark won the Class C crown, led by Sienna Hasseler who had the top series of 1,192. Emma Monagle of Midlakes had the top game with a 268.

In Class D, Bloomfield claimed first place. Lydia Tutty led the Bombers with a 1,101 series and a 244 game, both bests for Class D.
